Why get Accredited?

There is an increasing demand in our sector for transparency and credibility of coaches and mentors. Accreditation gives your clients, employers, peers and community the reassurance about how you are maintaining professional standards and adhering to a Global Code of Ethics.

Accreditation is also about growth. Your growth, to be specific. As coaches and mentors, we can enhance our impact by walking the talk, and sharing the journey we ask our clients to take when they work with us. Our accreditation pathways can provide that for you, and so much more:

  • Assure your clients of the level of your supervised professional practice
  • Raise your professional credibility and professional standing
  • Position yourself as a professional who calls and stands for international standards
  • Role-model best practice as a coach, mentor or supervisor
  • Demonstrate your capability for development and reflective practice
  • It’s more than just a ‘qualification’ – EMCC individual accreditation recognises effective application of outstanding practice

ACCREDITATION PATHWAYS

Types of Accreditation

We accredit individuals and training programs.

Our framework for assessment is based on extensive consultation and the most comprehensive competence research of mentoring/coaching produced to date. The emphasis of this accreditation process is to raise standards while acknowledging existing excellence.

The European Individual Accreditation (EIA) is an international recognised accreditation that demonstrates that an individual practising as a professional mentor/coach has the appropriate level of knowledge and the ability to apply it effectively in their practice.

In individual accreditation, we recognise prior learning and experience, irrespective of provider or accreditation body. If you have already completed an EQA-accredited program, you can fast track your individual accreditation (as you will have already received the quantity and standard of training required to evidence your competency).

Interested in attaining an EIA? Get in touch via our accreditation form to express your interest.

OTHER INDIVIDUAL ACCREDITATION TYPES

  • ESIA (EMCC Supervision Individual Award):
    For professional mentor/coach supervisors
  • ITCA (Individual Team Coaching Accreditation):
For individual coaches/mentors who provide team coaching

The EMCC Quality Award (EQA) is an internationally recognised accreditation for programs by providers of mentoring and coaching training. Organisations with an EQA demonstrate they meet the professional standards required by EMCC Global.

Graduates of an EQA-accredited training program are able to apply for their own individual accreditation (EIA) through their provider.

HOW TO APPLY FOR AN EQA

The first point of call is a conversation with a member of EMCC Global to discuss your program and determine the application pathway, process and costs etc. Reach out via email to accreditation@emccapr.org to start the conversation.

EMCC Accreditation Core Competency Framework

Our competence framework outlines the eight competencies we (EMCC) identify for good practice in mentoring and coaching.

These competencies are supported by Capability Indicators (CIs). It should be noted that CIs are only intended as guidance. EMCC works on the principle of equivalence – i.e. each mentor or coach works at a particular accreditation level and the CIs indicate the type of mentoring/coaching activity the professional will be undertaking at that level.

Individuals that wish to undertake EMCC accredited training for coaches/mentors can do so with an EMCC accredited EQA provider.  Individuals who wish to train as mentors/coaches can select from the list of EQA Providers with confidence that the content of the training is of high quality and recognised by the market they wish to enter. Once an individual is an EQA certificate holder, he/she may apply for a European Individual Accreditation via an accelerated process facilitated by the training provider.

Supervision is a form of professional support for the coach/mentor practitioner, provided by a professional supervisor, and occurs separately from the interaction with the client. It is primarily a reflective dialogue relating to their practice.

In the context of EMCC Global Accreditation, the nature of reflective practice is seen as a
dynamic enquiry of ‘thinking with a purpose’ to deliberate on issues and perceptions
related to one’s professional practice.

Reflection (as distinct from reflexivity) is…

Reflexivity can occur at an individual level through questioning, reviewing, evaluating, and from the willingness to examine assumptions and alternatives, leading to altering and assimilation of new perspectives (Hibbert, 2009; Hibbert et al., 2010) as well as ongoing enhancement of practice. Thus, reflectivity and reflexivity are key considerations for coaches, mentors, supervisors, and leaders to raise one’s awareness to be able to reflect critically with reflexivity.

For example, one needs to reflect not only on coaching, mentoring, supervision and leadership processes, but also examine assumptions, biases, personal values and beliefs and assimilate new perspectives. This can help to deepen personal reflections and identify and further probe thoughts, feelings, and behaviours for on-going professional development.
